An Elegant Show Along With A Graduation

My second show with my teacher's new agency, Audace, featured the designs of Whitewine Writer. And did she turn out some very elegant designs as you see in the picture! But in the midst of this show was 3 ladies who was experiencing some great things happen today...
Dramilla Covington, empressAz-TheHuntress and MsSummitFinest Bayn all celebrated graduation today during this show. It is an honor and a pleasure to welcome them into the family, and this writer is looking for great things to happen to them as they progress down the road. With those words said, let's tell of the show!

The top picture is the outfit I ended the show with- it is a beautiful white evening gown with a fluffy skirt... the 2nd. picture is more multi-purpose. It is a red evening gown that has a second short skirt that can make it wearable as a cocktail dress or layered on top of the long one. A white fur boa lets the gown become an elegant piece for a winter or Christmas ball.

Well, It's Definitely A Placing!

So what if it was a tie for 3rd. place in a styling? It still means that I placed in a styling event!
Yesterday's Styling was all about skating- whether it's roller skating or roller derby, skateboarding or ice skating. There were only 4 entrants for this styling including myself- and I figured one would have to lose to the other 3. Who would have thought that a skateboarder and an Ice Dancer would wind up in a tie for 3rd?

The winner was Erin for her portrayal as a figure skater. LiL took second for her figure skater, and it was me and Bell in a tie for 3rd- Bell was the skateboarder and I was the Ice Dancer. My styling notecard went something like this...

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Janet Gartner, and this styling is all about skating... and the most elegant form of them all is Ice Dancing.
Ice Dancing is a figure skating discipline generated from Ballroom Dancing and was first performed at the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, but didn't become an Olympic Medal Sport until 1976. Like Figure Skating, Ice Dancing is governed by the International Skating Union.

Ice Dancing is a pairs competition, and differentiates from Pairs Skating in the requirements for lifts, spins have to be done in a dance hold, and by disallowing throws and multi-revolutionary jumps- but half jumps are now allowed. Typically, partners are not supposed to separate by more than two arm lengths and originally, partners were supposed to be in a dance hold the entire program- though this restriction has been lifted somewhat in modern ice dancing.
Another difference with Ice Dancing is the music- the music has to have a beat or rhythm to it. In normal skating, skaters can skate to the melody or phrasing of the music- this is severely penalized in ice dancing. In some non-ISU Competions, solo dancers can also compete.

There are two parts of an Ice Dancing Competition- the Short Dance and the Free Dance. Up until 2009-2010, Compulsory Dances were required in Ice Dancing- that was done away after that year. The Free Dance is heavily weighted on, and serves as a tiebreaker.
The Short Dance combines elements of both the Compulsory and Original Dances, and was introduced in the 2010-2011 Season to make the competition similar to Figure Skating. For half of the Short Dance, pairs were to do a segment of a Compulsory Dance and then could do a segment of an Original Dance. Skaters are free to choose their own music for the Short Dance, so long as the tempo is appropriate.
For the Free Dance, Ice Dance pairs are allowed to be creative in it. Since 1998, dancers have been required to include certain elements in their sequences- including step sequences, lifts, dance spins and twizzles (Multi-Rotational turns). Senior Level Free Dances are  four minutes long and usually include multiple music cuts and tempos that bring variety to the routine. The hand holds and positions are much more open and free than in compulsory and original dance categories- and often teams strive to skate in difficult or unusual positions to gain difficulty points. Plus there are more lifts in the free dance than in the original dance.

Just like in figure skating, ice dancers wear spandex outfits- my costume, Bliss Couture's 'Tata', is a spandex bodice outfit with gold trim around the neck. Normally I would use my pose machine for posing- but since I'm ice dancing, I had to substitute a different AO for the occasion. My skates are the SKha V.3 ice skates in black uppers by V STYLE. Paired along side my normal accoutrements, and that completes the look for this ice dancer.

Thank you for coming out and sharing your time with us. Special Thanks go to Anrol Anthony and Steve101 McCullough for building this massive complex for us to be featured in, and to all in attendance. Have a wonderful day, and see you all soon.

Now tell me if that didn't deserve a better placement than a tie for 3rd.

A Very Special Place To Refine Yourself...

At first, I wouldn't believe a store like this existed in Second Life, but U:Refined does exist as a unique kind of store to find the styles you're looking for. Join their free group for monthly gifts that will give you some special touches to your outfits.
Every kind of outfit you're looking for is here- pantsuits, lingerie, skirts, coats and outerwear. And they're all affordable- anywhere from L$175 to L$225 per outfit.

Check out that board closest to me- that's one of the outfits on sale for L$225, minus the jacket. But these items in her store is only the tip of the iceberg- she has another location where she sells a heck of a lot more than what she has here. Check that store out- and give her some good reviews.

A Time To Celebrate Giving Thanks...

It's one of those rare occasions where something special happens... with November being Thanksgiving, a special event must happen the month before- and it happened on October 20th. A very special style event to celebrate Thanksgiving.
10 very special contestants had to do 2 stylings the week of October 15-19 to qualify for this special styling. In addition, they had to come up with an outfit that fit the theme of the styling- but 3 would win a share of L$5,000 in prize money. Just about every element of Thanksgiving was represented- including a vision of Abraham Lincoln's Vice President in the year Thanksgiving was made an official holiday, an elegant evening gown for the Pumpkin Queen, not to mention the turkey, the indians and the pilgrims of the very first Harvest Festival.

First place went to Ania Lennie as a very elegant turkey. Second went to FreedomRock Rhiadra as Abraham Lincoln's Vice President on the way to a costume ball in the year Thanksgiving became a national holiday, and third went to Philippe Byron as a Pilgrim at the very first Harvest Festival. But a lot of fun was had by all present- including this writer, who got to bring you this on her blog.

A New Beginning For me...

That was one of the first modeling pictures I had done with Ukiddingjo Sideways, about 2 years ago. I consider it to be my signature picture when I do photo pageants with Classic With Style- it's here on my blog to mark the beginning of something new.
Today marks my re-entrance into the University of Classic With Style as a student. I will definitely work my hardest this time around, as I cannot afford another shot at this.

An Unbelievable Finish In Superhero Styling...

You would think that one of those 3 Winners in today's Styling Event at Classic With Style isn't me, given my track record in past Daily Styling Events I did. Well here's a kick in the rump for you... one of those 3 Heroines IS me!

I figured a lot of the models would go for American Superheroes- characters based on Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman. Mschevia Resident won with her rendering of Wonder Woman. trixxistarr Resident took 2nd. for a sword-wielding student... and as for the one dressed as SuperSailor Mercury? Better believe that she just happens to be me up there!

Let's just hope this is the beginning of a new track record of winnings for me!
